We would like to make your own, as well as others activities enjoyable, so the following protocols need to be followed by members of the Illawarra Astronomical Society, and invited guests during observing nights.
GENERAL:
· Our observing site is a shared resource, therefore an attitude of respect for other users of the site is required;
· If you are a visitor (not a member of the Illawarra Astronomical Society), you should only visit the site as a guest when accompanied by a member of the society;
· If you bring children, it is your responsibility to ensure that they are well behaved at all times;
· Please do not litter and take any rubbish home with you;
DARK SKY BEHAVIOUR:
· Use red light torches only. Member will supply if needed. If so, it must be returned at the end of the night;
· Do not shine a torch at anyone’s face;
· The use of laser pointers must comply with our laser policy, as shown on our website;
Arriving and Departure:
Visitors need to arrive before sunset, in order to be guided to a parking spot;
· Headlights and white light torches spoil dark adaptation, and hinder observations;
Park your car with regard to your observing plan. Park facing towards the exit to avoid having to use reversing lights;
Plan Your Departure. Please announce in advance;
Never be Next to the Last to Leave. Don't leave someone alone at the observing site without first checking with them;
CLOTHING, OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
· Please wear warm clothing;
· Please wear stout shoes and good socks;
· It can be quite tiring to stand around on a cold night, so consider bringing a chair to sit on;
· Also, think of bringing a warm drink in a thermos, and something to nibble on, it helps with your comfort.
